flute  choir  summer  reading  session

 Register for this summer music session at the Ottley Music School to learn and perform standard and new flute ensemble repertoire.
​Classes available for beginner, intermediate, and advanced flutists ages 10 - 21.
What to Expect
  • Exposure to standard and new flute ensemble repertoire by composers such as Faure, Joplin,  Bach, Bizet, and more...
  • Meet new flutist friends in the region
  • Performance opportunities
  • Explore performance with auxiliary flutes, i.e. piccolo, alto flute, etc.
  • Stay musically active this summer

  • C Flutes
  • Piccolo
  • Alto Flutes
  • Bass Flutes
* All students must bring and be responsible for their own instrument. No instruments will be provided. Some used instruments are available for sale at the Ottley Music School.
What You Will Need
  • Your instrument
  • Pencil
  • Tuner/Metronome (available for purchase at the school and at local music stores
  • Dress comfortably

Beginner & Intermediate Flute Choir Reading Session
July 22nd- August 2nd
Monday - Friday

Advanced Flute Flute Choir Reading Session
July 22nd - August 2nd
Monday - Friday 
7:30-8:50pm

skill requirements

BEGINNER LEVEL:
1. Must have 1-2 years of performance experience with an ensemble like a school concert band or community orchestra.
2. Can play one octave scales with up to 2 flats and 2 sharps.
3. Ability to count basic rhythms with quarter note, half note, and whole note values.
4. Able to read a fingering chart.

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL:
1. Must have 2-4 of performance experience with an ensemble like a school concert band or community orchestra.
2. Can play 2 octave scales up to 3 flats and 3 sharps.
3. Ability to count rhythms inclusive of eighth note, triplet, and sixteenth note values.
4. Able to sight read basic rhythmic patterns with quarter note, half note, and whole note values.

​ADVANCED LEVEL:
1. Must have 4 or more years of performance experience with an ensemble like a school concert band or community orchestra.
2. Can play 2-3 octave scales up to 4 flats and 4 sharps or more.
3.  Ability to sight read rhythmic patterns inclusive of eighth note, triplet, and sixteenth note values.
4. Has performed a grade 4 or higher solo flute work from the Maryland Music Educator Association solo list.

MrS. Nevilla Ottley-Adjahoe

founder & Principal

Nevilla Eloise Ottley-Adjahoe is the founder and principal of the Ottley Music School, which was established in 1973. She is an author, conductor, pianist, organist, and music educator for over 50 years. She graduated from Andrews University (AU) in Michigan, with a B.Mus. degree in music education in 1971, and an M.A. in music history and organ performance under Dr. C. Warren Becker in 1972. She earned a master’s of music degree in conducting in 1980 at The Catholic University of America (CUA).

​FEES
Registration Fee: $35
This one time annual fee is required for all students studying at the Ottley Music School. Should you decide to continue classes or lessons at OMS you will not be required to pay the fee again until the following school year.

Recital Fee: $45
All OMS students are expected to perform in monthly recitals. Recitals are critical to student growth and performance. Recitals are scheduled in advance and are hosted at the school site. The recital fee is due at enrollment and the beginning of each term.

Beginner and Intermediate Flute Choir Summer Reading Session Tuition: $250
Total Fees + Tuition = $330

Advanced Flute Choir Summer Reading Session Tuition: $299
Total Fees + Tuition = $370

Auto-withdrawal, installment payment plans for banking cards are available and subject to a $8.00 processing fee. Payment of fees and tuition in full at time of enrollment results in a waiver of the processing fees for banking card payments.
